West Philadelphia kitchen remodeling for victorian twin

For this West Philadelphia kitchen remodel, renovation and expansion project, we rewired to modern code and for convenience upgrades throughout the kitchen and breakfast/dining room, and rear porch. The work involved careful coordination with the general contractor, Boston Design & Construction, to match finish surfaces after removal of several layers of existing finish material during demolition.

Conventional recessed lights were impossible due to irregular and crowded structural joists in the original ceiling, but we achieved a similar modern style using new T91 semi-recessed/retrofit LED fixtures from Commercial Electric. Thanks to the integrated LED technology, these lamp/fixtures will consume only 14.5 W to produce 65W equivalent rated light output, while the integrated LED emitters will maintain at least 80% light output (still brighter than needed) for more than 40,000 hours (compare to 5 or 10K for CFL lamps and 2K for incandescents). To my eyes, their light output is considerably better than a 65W halogen, but this may be because the rating allows for 20% output reduction over the rated emitter life of some 20,000 hours.
