Why Do My Fuses Blow Or My Circuit Breakers Trip?

Here is one of the number one questions I receive on a regular basis. My power or outlet worked just fine yesterday, why doesn't it work today? As an electrician, I like to say back nicely, my car had gas it in yesterday before I drove it all around, so why isn't it full today? Obviously, the situation has changed in both cases. As for the circuit that is off, it is likely that either a fuse has blown or a circuit breaker has tripped. But, what is one to do about that?
