Kitchen Retrofit in South Dakota: Undercabinet LED Light Strips

From The Argus Leader, a personal tale  of a DIY project (spread across TWO web pages) –

I ended up ordering a set of two small LED lighting units that are motion-sensitive, powered by AA batteries and can be installed with screws or mounting tape. I figured I would put one underneath the corner cupboard and the other in a nearby coat closet that had been converted to a pantry closet with the addition of shelves. Online reviews of the lights were generally favorable but cautioned that they ate up batteries if the area saw a lot of activity that set off the motion sensors frequently.

AND

Two hazards of getting the LED light strips: I now can see every crumb I missed cleaning the counter, and the brochure that came with the lights shows many tempting ways to use them throughout the house. So now it occurs to me that the area above my cabinets, with pottery dishes on display, is looking a little too dark. Oh, and maybe our bookshelves could use some, too.

EleBlog comment: I haven’t shopped for a new house in a couple of years. The house built for me a few years ago — our retirement shack — includes lots of undercabinet kitchen lighting; all wired; none of it LEDs.

At this point in time, retrofits such as the one above make sense — as does installing LED lighting under kitchen cabinets in all new residential construction. Especially in houses for older types!!!
