New Solar Contractor Specialty License in Broward County

. . . which is in Florida. From EleBlog’s reading of this new deal, you are either a Solar Contractor — or not. Here’s what it says — about ECs.:

Electrical Contractors
• Can install residential and commercial PV systems.
• Regulated by the Electrical Contractors Licensing Board.
• May be required to subcontract roofing tasks if required by the building department.
• Cannot call themselves “Solar Contractors.”

If we’re reading that correctly, an EC cannot call itself a “Solar Contractor” unless it goes after this separate license as well. What does a Solar Contractor do? Here’s what it says:

Solar Contractor License:
• Scope of work covers residential and commercial solar water heating, solar pool heating and photovoltaic systems.
• Is exempt from subcontracting certain roofing, plumbing and electrical work on residential installations.
• May be required to subcontract roofing, plumbing and electrical work on commercial installations if required by the building department.
