On the other hand, there is the BLS number on Construction (all trades) — something the EleBlog looks at via the online BLS database. Here again, we look at “production and nonsupervisory employees” — the men and women who work in the field (not the office).
Unlike the electrical niche numbers in the two items below, this is a SEPTEMBER number. Because these numbers are large, and comprise a lot of moving parts, the September number and the August number are BOTH subject to revision.
But still, these numbers tell a story:
SEPTEMBER (two revisions coming) — 4,372,000
AUGUST (one revision to come) — 4,410,000
JULY — 4,379,000
Not only is September below each of the previous two months, but ALL THREE OF THESE MONTHS (plus May and June) came in BELOW the monthly counterpart 2011 numbers for Construction –
– and 2011 was a crap year for the industry in all aspect, including employment.
BOTTOM LINE: Construction remains sick.
