Exec Delineates Drop in LED Prices
From NEMA’s ei magazine (p18 of the magazine, p20 of the PDF), article written by a Precision Paragon executive:
In 2010, the average cost per lumen of a commercial or industrial LED fixture was approximately 12 cents per lumen.
Today, that cost has dropped to approximately five cents per lumen, installed. While comparable fluorescent fixtures might cost three cents per lumen, the optical efficiency of LED lighting allows us to achieve the same lighting results with fewer lumens and far fewer watts.

Exposing Big Bad Green
“It is good to see that with far less resources, the free-market, pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer, pro-progress, pro-science, pro-realism side is getting to the dark underbelly of the beast. Such transparency will aid lawmakers and the public fully access a raft of public policies that are supposed to be good for the environment but, in fact, are good for bad.”
Three major stories about the Green movement and its ties to major Left-wing foundations and Left-wing journalists have been in the news.
- MediaTrackers uncovered Gamechanger Salon, a secretive group of over 1,000 Leftwing leaders and activists from organizations like AFL-CIO, Change.org, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Huffington Post, CNN, MSNBC, ThinkProgress, Media Matters, and such climate-alarm groups as Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Wilderness Society, US Climate Action Network, shaping news reporting and government policy.
- The U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee revealed a “Billionaires’ Club” of carefully orchestrated and hidden Leftwing support for environmental organizations totaling over $1.3 billion per year that exploits ties with the Environmental Protection Agency and other parts of the Obama Administration to pass policies Congress, the real representatives of the people, won’t adopt.
- Capital Research Center exposed a concerted effort in the mainstream media here and around the world, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and the BBC as well as leading newspapers and magazines, to exclude the views of “climate-change skeptic” scientists from coverage, thus hiding from the public the real and growing debates over climate change among qualified climate scientists.
Here are more details. Gamechanger Salon
On July 29, MediaTrackers, thanks to a University of Wisconsin professor’s emails acquired through an open records request, exposed Gamechanger Salon (GS), a secretive group of “over 1,000 state and national leftwing leaders and activists” that its policy manual describes as coming “from different ‘worlds’ of the movement to share stories, honest reflections, interesting articles, and provocative ideas on how we build a stronger, more coordinated, more game-changing movement for the 21st Century.”
GS’s members come from a many of the most powerful Leftwing organizations in America, including AFL-CIO, Change.org, NARAL, Progressive Change Campaign Committee,SEIU, MoveOn.org Political Action, Huffington Post, MSNBC; ThinkProgress, and George Soros’s Media Matters. Green—especially climate alarmist—groups are prominently represented:
350.org, Alliance for Climate Education, Climate Advocacy, Climate Justice, DeSmogBlog, Environment America, EnvironmentalAction.org, Forecast the Facts, Greenpeace, Greenpeace Global Youth Climate, Sierra Club, Sierra Student Coalition, Solar Mosaic, Story of Stuff, Climate Action Lab, US Climate Action Network, and Wilderness Society.
A GS member, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Fitsnews.com, “The object of this group was to protect Barack Obama at all costs, and push progressive messaging around the country. For your normal person, Gamechanger Salon sounds like some strange, forgettable thing—but these are the biggest movers and shakers in the nation. And the most hard core leftists in the nation.” Another member—a member, mind you—called it “the vast left-wing conspiracy.”
“Billionaires Club” Pulls Green Puppets’ Strings
On July 30, the U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee’s minority staff released a shocking 92-page report: “The Chain of Environmental Command: How a Club of Billionaires and Their Foundations Control the Environmental Movement and Obama’s EPA.” As Forbes contributor Chris Pandoni sums it up, the report shows that
“What may seem like an organic, disparate movement is actually a well oiled machine that receives its funding from a handful of super rich liberal donors operating behind the anonymity of foundations and charities” and reveals “the cozy relationship many environmental groups have with the executive branch and the revolving door that makes this possible.”
Some bottom-line points from Pandoni’s article and the EPW’s press release that introduced the report:
- In 2011, 10 foundations gave over half a billion dollars to Green groups.
- In the same year, member foundations of the Environmental Grantmakers Association (which doesn’t make its membership list public) gave $1.13 billion to Green groups.
- “Former environmentalists working at EPA funnel government money through grants to their former employers and colleagues.”
- “Under President Obama, EPA has given more than $27 million in taxpayer-funded grants to major environmental groups. Notably, the Natural Resources Defense Council and Environmental Defense Fund—two key activists groups with significant ties to senior EPA officials—have collected more than $1 million in funding each.”
- A key tactic of these mega-donors: set up faux-grass roots organizations as boots on the ground for campaigns against, e.g., hydraulic fracturing for gas and oil.
Before you dive into the full EPW report, you can get a sense of just how deep and dark the story is from an article on it by Ron Arnold, a veteran researcher on corruption in the Green movement, in the Washington Examiner.
Mainstream Media Censor Climate Skeptics
On August 5, the Capital Research Center released a new report documenting the fact that, even as observational evidence against CAGW (catastrophic anthropogenic global warming) mounts to the crushing point, mainstream journalists in both print and broadcast media have betrayed their profession by becoming advocates for global warming alarmism, with many institutions announcing publicly that they will not publish comments by warming skeptics.
Again, a few highlights:
- As of March 6, 2014, according to a report released that date by the Media Research Center, it had been over 3-1/2 years since either ABC or CBS had reported the views of a CAGW skeptic scientist, and over 9 months for NBC.
- Last October the Los Angeles Times letters editor decided the newspaper would no longer print letters taking a CAGW skeptic position.
- The science forum of news aggregator website reddit, with over 4 million subscribers (twice as many as the New York Times), has decided not to publish CAGW skeptics’ comments.
- Similar decisions have been made by the Sydney Morning Herald, CNN’s Reliable Sources program, Popular Science, the BBC, and others.
It is good to see that with far less resources, the free-market, pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer, pro-progress, pro-science, pro-realism side is getting to the dark underbelly of the beast. Such transparency will aid lawmakers and the public fully access a raft of public policies that are supposed to be good for the environment but, in fact, are good for bad.

Wind Generation is the Future Renewable Type of Energy
The future of power generation is going to be greatly influenced by the Wind.Wind is the Types of Renewable Energy that uses a wind turbine to generate the electricity. By the end of 2009 wind generation accounted for the generation of 159.2 gigawatts, which is about 2% of the worlds electricity required. Going forward wind generation has the technical potential to produce 40 times it current electricity generation.
There is a wide range of wind turbines available for many suppliers and they fall into two categories just like most other things around the world. There is a range of domestic wind generators ranging from 100 watts up to 1 Kilowatt and a much wider range of commercial units that range from 600 Kilowatts to 5 Megawatts however wind turbines with the rated output of 1.5 to 3 Megawatts are most commonly used in the commercial wind farms around the world.
Regardless of the rated output wind turbines use exactly the same method to generate an electricity supply. Basically they use they do exactly opposite to an electric motor. An electric motor uses a supply of electricity to energize a coil of wire (the armature) that is contained in a magnetic field this causes the armature to turn therefore supplies a source of mechanical energy. Now a wind turbine on the other hand takes it energy source from the wind and using the blades to mechanically turn the armature within the magnetic field. This movement within the magnetic field induces an electrical current in the windings, which can be used to feed into the main power grid or into a battery bank in the case of a stand-alone system.
The rate of electricity generated is proportional to the speed at which the turbine turns. Before installing a wind generator you need to do some research into whether or not the location that you live in is suitable. You need to have what as known as clean wind meaning that there is no interference to the flow of wind into the generator like trees mountains builds etc. It is also a good idea to install some wind monitoring equipment and study the amount of wind you can actually take advantage of. You may find that your location is not suitable for a wind generator and you may need to look at other types of renewable energy like Solar Panels.
The use of wind generators for the creation of electricity is growing across the globe by a staggering rate of 30% per year. The fact that people are using the power of the wind it is making Wind Turbines one of the forefront in the Types of Renewable Energy and as the need for more electricity and the need to reduce greenhouse gases there will be more research and development conducted to better the technology that we are already using to make wind turbines more efficient and cheaper to construct. As they find was to make them cheaper the more people will choose to use them making it a win win situation for use and the environment.

A Guide To Choosing Ceiling Lights For Your Bathroom
Have you ever heard the saying ‘a change is as good as a holiday’? There is plenty of truth to this statement; take, for example, changing the ceiling lights in your bathroom – this small act alone could make it feel like a whole new space. There is more to this decision, however, than just walking into a showroom, pointing at a fixture you like and saying ‘that one’. Use this guide to ensure that you are making the right choices for your bathroom in regards to San Gabriel Valley lighting.
Our bathrooms need to be functional above everything else, and the ceiling lights that you ultimately choose for your space will help to determine with this is the case. There is no point in installing a fixture that looks stunning if it prevents you from completing all of the tasks that you would normally undertake in the space, such as shaving and applying make up. This is not to say, however, that homeowners should forget about the aesthetics of their lighting fixtures – instead, it is about finding a balance.
One way to achieve this is by choosing ceiling fixtures that you can easily adjust in both direction and levels of illumination.
- Illumination: the best way to control the level of illumination in your bathroom is by installing dimmer switchers in conjunction with your ceiling lights. You could also opt for the traditional fixture that includes both heat and normal lights. Whilst this only gives you the choice of two levels of brightness, it may be sufficient for your needs.
- Direction: the best way to control the direction of lighting in your bathroom is by installing ceiling lights that are mounted into moveable supports. Halogen and LED lights are often mounted in this way, and their fixtures allow you to point the lights in the direction that you need the most illumination (such as over the vanity or the shower stall).
Thankfully, there is plenty of aesthetically pleasing ceiling lights out there that also achieves adequate illumination that can be dimmed or brightened and directed to a certain area. Recessed lights and downlights sit flush with the ceiling and appear as if they’re not even there during the day, whilst a chandelier will make a luxurious and elegant statement. If going for a ‘wow-factor’ fixture, such as a pendant or chandelier, it is recommended that you do the rest of your bathroom as minimalist as possible to avoid overpowering the space.

Energy Efficiency Rated Appliance Tags
When an appliance is giving you trouble, seems to be running too long, or is just is older than dirt, it is time to update to a more energy efficient model of the vast appliance lines. When you enter an appliance store, you may notice that many of the appliances have a yellow tag attached to them. This tag tells you the energy rating and estimated cost per year to run this appliance. By doing your due diligence, you'll be able to make an informed decision on the appliance that "for the money" will save you money year to year and actually pay for itself in energy savings versus the old, outdated appliance you own now.

Housing Isn’t Cheap
That’s the verdict from the WSJ’s Real Time Economics blog, which says –
FHA policies, in other words, have raised financing costs for first-time homebuyers relative to what borrowers with larger down payments would find in the market. While the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage stood at 4.47% in February, the effective rate paid by FHA borrowers, once premiums and other costs are baked in, stood at around 5.65%, according to Goldman.

Industrial Wind Needs Blowback (Siemens ad campaign targeting U.S. taxpayers)
“Since Siemens’ tax-sheltering market is drying up in Europe, their marketing efforts in the U.S. are clearly geared towards increasing income for its investors via wind’s tax sheltering schemes here. Taxpayers, consumers take note!”
If you watch much mainstream TV, you’ve probably seen Siemens’ recent multi-million-dollar advertising blitz to sell the American public on industrial wind.
As it turns out, the wind business abroad has taken a huge hit of late. European countries have begun slashing renewable mandates due to the ever-broadening realization that renewables cost far more than industrial wind proponents have led everyone to believe — not only economically, but environmentally, technically, and civilly as well.
As reported in the article Siemens onshore, offshore pain: “Siemens’ energy business took a €48m hit in the second quarter related to a bearings issue with onshore turbines and a €23m charge due to ongoing offshore grid issues in Germany.”
Since Siemens’ tax-sheltering market is drying up in Europe, their marketing efforts in the U.S. are clearly geared towards increasing income for its investors via wind’s tax sheltering schemes here. Taxpayers, ratepayers beware!
As a company who stands to profit handsomely by it, Siemens ad campaign is obviously part of an overall pitch to urge Congress to extend the very lucrative wind Production Tax Credit (PTC), or more accurately, the “Pork-To-Cronies” bill.
As Warren Buffett recently admitted, “We get tax credits if we build lots of windfarms. That’s the only reason to build them. They don’t make sense without the tax credit.”
President Obama claims he wants to “close corporate loopholes,” while his policies (i.e.: the PTC) continue to funnel $Billions of taxpayer dollars to his wealthy corporate insiders – all while the unconscionable debt we are leaving for our children and grandchildren continues to mount.
IRS’s End-run Around Legislation
Increasing public awareness of the scam that wind energy really is has led to increased opposition to extending any more corporate welfare to Big Wind via the PTC and ITC. Enter another bureaucratic end-run around legislation by this Administration.
As recently reported by the WSJ, the IRS has relaxed the definition of “commence construction” to the point where the definition bears no resemblance to the actual words. Curtis G. Wilson of the IRS admitted at a hearing by the House Energy Policy, Health Care and Entitlements subcommittee (chaired by Congressman James Lankford (R-OK)) last October, that developers can game the system to the point where projects built years from now could still meet the eligibility requirements.
U.S. taxpayers and ratepayers are doomed when, instead of allowing the markets to work, crony-Corruptocrats are picking the winners and losers in the energy marketplace using such nefarious tactics.
Things Wind Advertisements Won’t Tell You
Sadly, most people don’t even know the difference between energy and power. This reality has laid the framework for the biggest SWINDLE to ever be perpetrated on citizens worldwide. Many well-intended people have bought in on the alarmists’ theory that “We have to do something” in order to stop “Global Warming” – Enter, the wind industry sales department.
Siemens needs to convince the 80% of U.S. citizens who live in suburbia that industrial wind factories are “environmentally-friendly,” and that everyone loves them. Thus, as usual for these disingenuous ad campaigns, a sprawling wind factory is pictured amongst green fields, with no homes anywhere to be seen, while a happy Iowa leaseholder smiles and says she loves wind.
Taking a drive out Route 20A in Wyoming County of western New York State, however, tells a far different story. The western side of Wyoming County – which used to be some of the most beautiful countryside in New York State, has been industrialized with 308 giant, 430 foot-tall towers, and their 11-ton, bird-chopping blades spinning overhead, only hundreds of feet from peoples’ homes and roadways. There’s no doubt that Siemens won’t be showing you this reality in any of their TV ads!
Unfortunately for the residents of the Wyoming County town of Orangeville, NY, greed at the top in Washington, DC determined their fate. The sole reason Invenergy went ahead with their plans to build their 58-turbine project in Orangeville was that the PTC was added as pork for those sucking at the teat of wind welfare in the wee hours of the morning, 1/1/13.
Ever appreciative for the handouts, Ukrainian Michael Polsky – the owner of Invenergy, rewarded President Obama by holding a $35,000 a plate fundraiser at his mansion in Chicago. President Obama is so committed to Big Wind that he’s even legalized 30-Year EAGLE KILL Permits just for the wind industry.
There you have it – corporate cronyism in all its glory, with bird murder as their crowning glory.
Word of impending lawsuits linger in Orangeville. It remains to be seen if disenchanted leaseholders will end up suing Big Wind, as others have. In the meantime, we’re hoping we don’t have any more 11-ton blade breaks that throw shrapnel for thousands of feet, or airplanes crashing into wind turbines during fog, as occurred in South Dakota earlier this year, killing all four on board. (Bet you won’t be seeing any of these facts on Siemens’ ads either.)
Elected Officials: Energy Literacy, Please
What’s most frustrating when attempting any kind of correspondence regarding these energy issues with many elected officials, is the kind of response I received from New York State Senator Schumer when I wrote him a letter about ending the Wind PTC. Senator Schumer never even mentioned the PTC in his response to me, but instead, rambled on about the need to “reduce foreign oil imports,” and increase “efficiency” – neither of which have anything to do with wind-generated electricity.
Senator Schumer recently feigned alarm following complaints by citizens about soaring electric rates, demanding answers about it — while simultaneously supporting extending the Wind PTC (as well as other rate-increasing “renewable” projects). Senator Schumer’s hypocrisy is outrageous, and simply unacceptable.
Perhaps it’s time that U.S. ratepayers and taxpayers demand that their elected officials first pass an energy literacy exam before they pass on such cost-exorbitant, ‘green’ boondoggles to consumers.
Call to Action!
Congress is on vacation through August, which makes this the perfect time to approach your Senators and Representatives while they’re home. We can attend town hall meetings and in-district fundraisers. Remind your representatives that WE put them in office, and that WE can just as easily VOTE THEM OUT!
Since energy plays a pivotal role in our national economy – impacting the cost of absolutely everything else, candidates should have “Energy” listed on their Issues webpage.
Good candidates will support an “All of the Sensible“ energy policy as opposed to the “All of the Above” energy policy which President Obama has been pushing on behalf of the ‘green’ movement. “Sensible” alternative energy options are those that have scientific proof that they have a net societal benefit.
Industrial wind fails this test miserably!
For more information, you can refer them to an excellent book that I have handed out to a number of elected officials — Power Hungry: The Myths of “Green” Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future by Robert Bryce.
Continue to call and write their offices, and encourage them to oppose any extension of the PTC and ITC! Write letters to your local newspapers, copy their district offices, and post information on their social media pages (i.e.: Facebook & Twitter).
We must demand accountability from elected officials, or VOTE THEM OUT! Reliable, affordable energy is what has made America great. Let’s keep it that way.

What YOU Can Do to Reduce Pollution?
What YOU Can Do to Reduce Pollution?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has prepared this fact sheet to answer some of the most common questions about reducing emissions from private vehicles.
This is an important concern, as cars are a major source of air pollution in the United States. Vehicle emissions contribute to health and environmental problems such as urban smog, air toxics, and global warming. Yet individual driving habits make a big difference in the amount of pollution a car produces.
Three easy things you can do to help keep emissions as low as possible are:
• Avoid unnecessary driving
• Maintain your car properly
• Drive your car wisely
By combining these strategies, you can very effectively reduce the amount your car pollutes. And there are additional benefits — your car will last longer and you will save money.
Avoid Unnecessary Driving
The most effective way to reduce emissions from your vehicle is to use it less.
Vehicle travel in this country is doubling every 20 years. Traffic trends that see
more and more cars driving more and more miles will soon begin to outpace
technological progress in vehicle emission control.
Several options are available to help you reduce the amount you drive. These
include consolidating trips, telecommuting, carpooling, using public transit, and choosing clean transportation alternatives such as biking or walking.
By planning errands, you will get the most out of time you do spend behind the wheel. For example, call ahead to confirm that the product you need is in stock before you drive to the store. Plan to do several tasks when you go somewhere.
Drive to a central location and park. Then walk between nearby destinations.
Ridesharing can be an ideal way to reduce your personal contribution to pollution.
Every time you share a ride and eliminate a trip, you help the environment. Try pairing up for trips to work or to social events — even an occasional carpool or ride on public transportation will make a difference.
Biking or walking to your destination creates no pollution at all. And you’ll
increase your fitness level at the same time.

How a Mattress Cover Can Make your Day!
An investment in a good mattress can be quite high. To help protect your investment, it would be wise to add a mattress cover to your mattress. Depending on what one might need from a mattress, the mattress cover could help make your day. There are many reasons you should consider using this type of protection. These include protection and comfort
With a mattress cover you can protect your mattress from liquids. Spills can happen at any time. A mattress cover can help to protect your mattress from spills and allow you to keep your investment in the best shape possible for as long as possible. You can also protect your investment in a good night’s sleep from becoming a place where bacteria and other mites will grow and collect. Mould spores, allergens, and dust mites can be kept from making a home in your mattress with the application of a mattress cover. The best mattress cover will completely enclose your mattress to help prevent allergens from collecting. Dirt is another problem that many people have to deal with when they do not use a mattress cover. Even a brand new mattress will have some dirt and other contaminants on it before you apply the first sheet.
A mattress cover can also add to the amount of comfort a mattress can provide you. Some covers can be heated to help deal with the colder months of the year. You could think of this type of cover as the same as applying an electric blanket to your sleeping area. The heated mattress cover has the heating coils built into it and you can turn it on when you are getting ready to get some sleep. Imagine how much fun it will be to be able to be warm when you go to sleep during those cold nights. Many mattress covers also can be chosen that provide memory foam tops that can enhance your current memory foam mattress. With the addition of a foam pillow top, the cosiness will be greatly increased. If you choose this type of mattress cover, it often will lie on top of the mattress and allow you to increase your comfort easily and quickly.
A mattress cover can provide comfort, cosiness, and protection from many different elements that could reduce the lasting power of your mattress. With the right mattress cover, it should be possible to accomplish the goal of protecting your investment in your sleeping future for many days and peaceful nights to come.

For Whom The Bell Tolls...Or Not?
Door bells are a convenient tool for announcing someone as arrived at your door. Depending on the chime, there are often different sounds for different doors to differentiate from one door to the other. When someone gets to your door they either knock or push a button to ring your door bell. When the button is pushed, it completes the door bell circuit and rings the bell. But what if the bell doesn't ring? What could possibly be wrong? Could it be operator error? Well maybe, but I would say it is a problem in the switch, wiring or the door bell itself. To find out for sure, you'll need to perform these door bell troubleshooting tips.

Measures to Save Electricity Quickly
Measures to Save Electricity Quickly
There are two ways to save electricity quickly. First, efficiency improvements can be made to the energy-using equipment such that consumers receive the same services but with less electricity consumed. (These are sometimes called “technical fixes”) In these situations the end user is barely (or not at all) aware that improvements have been made. In the second case, the
energy consumer takes deliberate measures to reduce energy use through changes in operations or procedure which may also cause inconvenience and result in a loss of service or amenity. These are typically called “behavioral” changes.
Technical Efficiency Measures
The technical measures to save electricity quickly are similar to those used to save electricity slowly except that they may be implemented with greater intensity by combining them with special subsidies or delivery schemes. Three examples are described below.
Retrofits—especially retrofits of large, energy-using facilities—are attractive targets during an electricity crisis. About 8% of industrial electricity is used to make compressed air, much of which is lost through leaks (Rosenberg 2003).
The compressed air systems therefore represent a source of major savings. California supported inspections and tune-ups of compressed air facilities in factories. Retrofits of eight factories yielded verified savings of 2 MW.
Lighting replacements have been the most frequently used retrofit strategy. Replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents (CFLs) was used in Brazil, California, and New Zealand. California consumers installed nearly eight million CFLs during the crisis period, resulting in almost 500 MW of demand reduction (Pang 2003).
California cities replaced millions of traffic lights with LED lamps, each saving about 80 watts. California aggressively encouraged consumers to replace older appliances with new units qualifying for the Energy Star endorsement of high efficiency Fuel switching offers large electricity savings.
Electricity is often used to heat air or water, especially in the residential sector and in sparsely populated areas.
There are numerous opportunities to burn wood, oil, or natural gas directly to obtain the desired heat. Homeowners in Norway and New Zealand, for example, reverted to existing wood stoves and boilers for space and water heating.
Fuel switching is an important electricity-savings measure because it removes the homes’ largest electricity-consuming end uses.
The greatest benefits from fuel switching will generally occur during shortages caused by cold weather but some measures can also save summer peak power. For example, Brazilians replaced in-line electric shower heaters with gas-fired units, thus saving about 3 kW electrical demand per unit.
Effectiveness of Technical Measures
Technological modifications require an existing infrastructure in order to deploy the products in a short time, stretching from the manufacturer capable of quickly expanding production to skilled personnel to install them.
In most cases, there will not be enough time, or the infrastructure is inadequate, to establish new efficiency improvement and retrofit programs large enough to reduce demand significantly.
Norway, for example, addressed its electricity shortage by establishing programs to install heat pumps, energy management systems, and wood pellet stoves.
Skilled personnel were overwhelmed and it is unlikely that these measures cut Norway’s electricity demand during the crisis. On the other hand, California already had an established network to deliver its “saving electricity slowly” programs.
This network, while still inadequate, was able to rapidly increase activities during the crisis and deliver significant electricity savings. Regions that are vulnerable to temporary electricity shortfalls should consider their programs to “save electricity slowly” as a kind of insurance policy that will also serve as the backbone of a team to save electricity during a crisis.

A Guide to Outdoor Electrical Outlets
There is a good chance that you use outdoor electrical outlets at some point during the year. That being said, there are some areas that will naturally make more use of this type of outdoor receptacle. When used properly, an outdoor electrical outlet can be a very handy thing to have. It allows you to power devices and appliances that you would normally be unable to use outdoors. How much do you know about the electrical outlets that are on the outside of your property?
For the most part, an outdoor electrical socket is exactly the same as the outlets within your home. In most cases, an outdoor receptacle is a 120v, three-pronged grounded outlet that the majority of our appliances plug into. You can find them on exterior walls, on decks, by pools and sometimes on important pieces of equipment such as pumps and other exterior appliances. Naturally, outdoor outlets are more popular in warmer and more temperate climates. These areas lend themselves to more time spent outside, which makes them incredibly useful.
What Can I Use It For?
The simple answer to this question is that you can use them for anything that you would normally power inside. This type of outlet is very popular for stereos, lights, fans and anything else that might be necessary outside. When used in conjunction with an outdoor kitchen, they can be used to power blenders, microwaves, hot plates and more. With the popularity of electrical lawn devices on the rise, it is also a great place to plug in electric mowers, weed trimmers and blowers.
Are Outdoor Outlets Safe?
As with anything else, outdoor receptacles are as safe as the person using them. Although it may seem less safe to use electricity outside, it is actually very safe to do so. In fact, most outdoor outlets have special protections in place to ensure that they remain as safe as possible. One of the most common ways that they are protected is by using GFCI outlets, rather than standard electrical outlets. GFCI outlets are equipped with special sensors that can detect small changes in electrical current and shut the power off if necessary. This will help you from accidental electrocution if there is a short, if something comes into contact with water and more. To further protect your outlets, it is common practice to cover them so that they are protected from wind, rain, dirt and other elements.
All in all, an outdoor electrical outlet is a great way to increase the versatility of your outdoor spaces. Whether you are using it to power your electric lawn equipment, special lighting or any other equipment, there is an unlimited number of uses for these outlets. If you need additional outlets on your home, or if you just don’t have any to begin with, get in touch with your local electrician. They can not only advise you on safe placement and usage, but install them fairly quickly and efficiently.

DOE Info On LED Outdoor Area Lighting
From a 2p “Postings” (from US DOE SSL’s operation) on the recent CALiPER “snapshot report” on LED outdoor area lighting:
As with the broader set of products, the efficacy of LED outdoor area products continues to improve. The mean efficacies for currently listed roadway, garage, directional, and canopy uminaires are 81, 83, 83, and 91 lm/W, respectively — with one product as high as 150 lm/W.
Canopy luminaires have a mean efficacy that’s approximately 10% higher than the other three luminaire types, probably due to differences in typical optical systems.
Roadway and parking garage luminaires have exhibited approximately 50% increases in efficacy since the inception of LED Lighting Facts in late 2008, and roughly three-quarters of the area/roadway, parking garage, and canopy luminaires meet their respectiveDesignLights Consortium® (DLC)Qualified Products List efficacy criteria (the DLC doesn’t specifically define a category for outdoor directional luminaires)
